John van Heteren

John van Heteren is an accomplished Director of Hardware Engineering at Varian Medical Systems, with over two decades of experience in the field. His career began as a Scientist and EE/FW Engineer, and he has held positions ranging from Project Leader to Director of Product Management. John's expertise lies in managing engineering development, encouraging innovation, and developing HW/SW systems with extensive electrical engineering, firmware, and application software development.

Most of John's experience has been with medical devices, including radiotherapy and MRI, but he has also worked extensively with industrial CT and wireless technology. John holds a Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and has studied Physics and Medical Biophysics at the University of Victoria and the University of Toronto, respectively.

At Varian Medical Systems, John is currently the Director of the Treatment Delivery Applied Research. Previously, he held the position of Director of System Engineering and Director of Product Management at SchlumbergerSema. He has also worked as a SW Engineer and Product Manager at Telegen and held Scientist and MRI Scientist positions at Toshiba America MRI Inc and Toshiba America Medical Systems, respectively.
