John Saw

John Saw is a highly experienced and accomplished figure in the telecommunications industry, currently serving as the Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at T-Mobile.

Background and Education

John Saw holds a Ph.D., Master’s, and Bachelor’s degrees in Electrical Engineering from McMaster University in Canada. He is also a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (FCAE).24

Career

• T-Mobile: Since April 2023, John has been the EVP and Chief Technology Officer, leading Core & Technology Development. Prior to this, he was the Executive Vice President of Advanced and Emerging Technologies from April 2020 to April 2023.234
• Sprint: Before joining T-Mobile, he was the Chief Technology Officer at Sprint from August 2015 to April 2020. He also served as the Chief Network Officer at Sprint from July 2013 to August 2015.23
• Clearwire: John was the second employee of Clearwire, joining in 2003, and served as its Chief Technology Officer until 2013. During his time at Clearwire, he played a crucial role in developing the 2.5 GHz band into a valuable mid-band spectrum in the USA.123
• Other Roles: He has also held senior leadership positions at AT&T Wireless, Bell Northern Research, Netro Corp, and Nortel.124

Contributions and Recognitions

• John is recognized as a pioneer in the 2.5 GHz band and has led significant developments in wireless technologies. He holds six U.S. patents in wireless technologies.124
• In 2017, he was appointed to the Broadband Deployment Advisory Committee by the FCC Chairman.124

• John serves on the board of directors for Spectrum Effect, a company specializing in RF spectrum analytics.
