John Rochester
Interim Executive Director
John Rochester is the Interim Executive Director of the Alabama Humanities Foundation (now known as the Alabama Humanities Alliance) based in Birmingham, Alabama.23 He has held this position since February 2012, serving for over 12 years in this role.2
Prior to his current position, John E. Rochester had a career in the legal field. He served as a judge for Circuit 40 in Alabama before retiring from the court in 2010.4
In his role at the Alabama Humanities Foundation, Rochester oversees the organization's mission to promote and support humanities programs throughout the state. The foundation celebrates individuals who use the humanities to make Alabama a "smarter, kinder, and more vibrant place to live".1 They bestow honors such as the Alabama Humanities Fellow title, recognizing outstanding contributions to the humanities in Alabama.1
Under Rochester's leadership, the foundation has continued to support various initiatives, including public programs, grants, and educational resources aimed at fostering understanding and appreciation of the humanities in Alabama.
