John R Williams

John R. Williams serves as the President, Chief Investment Officer, and Chief Operating Officer at Avanath Capital Management, a firm that specializes in affordable and workforce housing investments across major U.S. cities. He has been with Avanath since June 2012, where he leads portfolio acquisitions, capital formation, investor relations, and fund management. Under his leadership, the firm has successfully closed five institutional investment funds totaling over $2 billion, attracting capital from prestigious investors including U.S. and European pension funds, university endowments, and family offices.14

Williams has a strong educational background, having graduated from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design Executive Program and holding a B.S. in Finance from Duquesne University. His professional experience prior to Avanath includes roles as Managing Partner at Carmel Partners and Managing Director at Acacia Capital.23

In addition to his executive responsibilities, Williams is actively involved in the real estate industry. He serves as a Governor of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), has been the Past Chairperson of the ULI Silver Multi-Family Council, and is a member of the Executive Committee of the National Multi Housing Council (NMHC). He also contributes to academia as an Advisory Board Member of Duquesne University's Business School and frequently speaks at national real estate conferences.12
