John Paterson is a seasoned mining engineer with a wealth of experience across 5 continents in the exploration and development of gold, diamond, and base metal properties.

In 2006, John Paterson and his wife Maureen relocated from Toronto to southern Costa Rica, where they own and manage Rio Magnolia, a nature lodge and coffee farm nestled in a 200-acre rain and cloud forest. Their property operates off the grid and generates electricity through a micro hydro plant.

John Paterson, a nature enthusiast, and wildlife photographer, welcomes guests from around the globe at Rio Magnolia, offering them a one-of-a-kind experience in the heart of Costa Rica's natural beauty.

Besides his work in the mining industry and eco-tourism, John Paterson also dabbles in fiction writing, drawing inspiration from his diverse global adventures.

John Paterson pursued his Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Engineering at Queen's University, a solid academic foundation that complemented his practical experience in the field.
