    John Okhiulu, also known as jawno, is an Afro-Indigenous and Afro-Diasporic artist, poet, gardener, organizer, and aspiring good ancestor with a focus on cultivating thriving climate futures.

    With degrees in Human Biology and African & African American Studies from Stanford University, John is deeply involved in supporting movements for reconnection and reclamation of food, land, and lifeways.

    Currently, John serves as a Program Associate at Waverley Street Foundation, specializing in global grantmaking to regenerate food systems and promote renewable community energy.

    Beyond his professional endeavors, John expresses his artistic soul and organizer's heart through artwork, writing, and leading initiatives that aim to dismantle hetero-patriarchy in food systems and uplift Black and Indigenous Liberation.

    His previous experiences include reshaping philanthropic narratives at Decolonizing Wealth Project and contributing to chemical-free urban food systems with Black Earth Farmers.

    John has a diverse educational background, having completed a Double Bachelor of Arts in Human Biology and African & African American Studies at Stanford University, as well as a Certificate of Completion in An Equity-Approach to Pandemic Preparedness and Response from the University of Global Health Equity.

    He has been involved with several organizations, serving in various roles such as Program Associate, Advisory Circle Member, Visiting Lecturer, and Scholar.
