John McKenzie

John McKenzie is a financial management and operations professional with 19 years of experience managing budgets, educational and training programs, contracts and grants, and cross-functional operations units for several Washington, DC-area nonprofits. He has managed and evaluated over 100 programs, recruited subject matter experts, processed contracts and grants, balanced budgets for sponsored projects, and spearheaded initiatives to improve efficiencies across organizations. McKenzie holds a BA and an MA in Geography from Kansas State University.

Currently, McKenzie is the Research Program Manager at The George Washington University, and also offers consulting services in the areas of travel/trip planning, spreadsheet data management, and budgeting. Previously, he served as the Institute Administrator and Fiscal Manager at GW Cancer Center, Senior Associate for Operations, Senior Specialist for Contracts & Procurement Services, and Specialist for Operations at The Pew Charitable Trusts. Additionally, he held positions at the Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society, PERI, Inc., Peace Corps, Devanco/Garnett Area Chamber of Commerce, and Hale Library.

When he is not working, McKenzie manages a geography-themed website featuring unique travel stories and useful resources. He is a creative problem-solver with a history of team-building and results-driven leadership.
