    John Paul Glaves was an executive adviser with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry for the Government of Alberta. He provided clarification on the usage of rappel crews in wildfire management, stating that over the 2014 to 2018 fire seasons, rappel crews were deployed between 4 to 10 percent of all wildfires and rappelled 18 percent of the time on average.1

    More recently, John Paul Glaves worked as the manager of research partnerships in the Office of Research Services (ORS) at Wilfrid Laurier University. He joined Laurier in September 2022 after many years of service with the Government of Alberta. In his role at Laurier, he fostered collaborations through the university's research partnership with the Government of the Northwest Territories and supported Laurier's 23 research centres.2

    Tragically, John Paul Glaves passed away on November 5, 2024, at the age of 43. He was remembered as a valued colleague known for his quick wit, kindness, and dedication to his work. John Paul was also a beloved father, husband, and hockey coach.2
