July 29, 2016 – Polar Industries announced today that it will be changing its name to TransCold Services Ltd. effective August 1, 2016. The company name change reflects the new ownership and brings the Polar business into the TransCold brand. TransCold Services Ltd. will be made up of two divisions: TransCold Refrigeration and TransCold Electric. Each division will focus on their respective industries but will work seamlessly to provide comprehensive refrigeration and electrical solutions to customers.
 As part of the company rebranding, new logos and a tagline has been created— “Refrigeration, Cold Storage & Electric Contractors”—which is now part of TransCold corporate identity. “This name change better reflects the current and future direction of the company. We are pleased to announce that effective September 1, 2015 John Coughlan, President & CEO of TransCold Distribution Ltd & Inc has become the majority shareholder of Polar Industries Ltd in BC. 

Polar Industries was established originally in 1948 and is a major player in the refrigeration and cold storage construction industry. Currently Polar employs 15 government certified technicians along with full time supporting trades including Welders, Electricians, Gas fitters, Engineers and a Sales Team, and services Western Canada

This is an extremely exciting endeavor and a great partnership to be had between TransCold and Polar as we will soon be able to offer TCD customers in store freezer repairs and maintenance. As well as construction and installation of Walk In Freezer’s and Cooler’s. John will assume his new role of President  & CEO of Polar Industries Ltd effective immediately. He also looks forward to working very closely with the staff of Polar Industries Ltd.

Coast Mountain Dairy, a B.C. ice cream maker, has been bought by the owner of one of the West’s largest distributors of frozen treats and ice cream.

John Coughlan, CEO of TransCold Distribution, purchased Coast Mountain Feb. 1.

Coast Mountain manufacturers private-label ice cream as well as ice cream under the Mountain Pride and Arctic Star brands. Its products are sold at ice cream shops, convenience and grocery stores.

TransCold distributes brands such as Magnum, Popsicle, Klondike, Ben and Jerry’s, Chapman’s and Breyers in Western Canada and the U.S.

The company was set up in 2002 by Coughlan when Unilever opted to contract out its Western Canadian frozen goods distribution business.

Coughlan also owns a Vancouver-based ice cream maker, Sara’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream.

Under the new ownership, TransCold will handle distribution of Coast Mountain products.

Coast Mountain, meanwhile, will take over the manufacturing of certain Sara’s ice creams. Coast Mountain’s plant in Chilliwack, B.C. has a larger capacity than Sara’s facility in Vancouver, says TransCold spokesperson Jaimie Gifford.

Sara’s ice cream cakes, which are sold at grocery chains such as Safeway, Thrifty, Sobeys and H.Y. Louie’s Marketplace IGA, will continue to be made at the Vancouver facility, Gifford said.

In a press statement, Coughlan said Coast Mountain, TransCold and Sara’s together form a perfect fit.

“Together we will further strengthen our positions in ice cream and frozen distribution, as well as serve our consumers and customers with an even more complete offering,” he said.
