John Carrano

Dr. John Carrano is a highly accomplished executive leader with a history of success in various key roles. He possesses a unique blend of technical expertise and leadership acumen, leading to successful implementations.

Throughout his career, Dr. Carrano has held notable positions including Program Director at Wellcome Leap, President, CEO, and Founder of Paratus Diagnostics, LLC, President and CEO of Kapplex Inc., and President and Founder of Carrano Consulting, LLC.

His professional journey also includes roles such as Director at Kapplex, Inc., Director at Xagenic, Inc., Vice President of Research and Development and Corporate Executive Officer at Luminex Corp. He has a diverse background having worked as a Program Manager at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).

Dr. Carrano's academic achievements include a PhD in Electrical Engineering specializing in Quantum Electronics from the University of Texas, Austin, where he also earned his Master of Science degree. He studied Electrical Engineering at the prestigious United States Military Academy at West Point, being a top 10% graduate of his class.

Additionally, Dr. Carrano has served in various capacities in academia and the military, having been an Assistant Professor and Executive Officer in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the USMA. He has also been a decorated career army officer and has held positions such as Research Scientist at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory, Commander, Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, and Squadron Maintenance Officer in the U.S. Army.

Having published over 60 scholarly articles and being the holder of one issued patent with two pending, Dr. Carrano's contributions to the field have been significant. He is an elected Fellow of SPIE and has been a Chairman and Keynote Speaker at multiple international science conferences. His expertise is further demonstrated by his continued service on the DHS S&T Advisory Committee.
