independent consultant at Systems Artisans
John Bell has a rich history in programming that dates back to 1971 when he was self-taught in Digital BASIC and PDP-8 assembler, creating Conrad's 'LIFE' game. Over the years, he transitioned to various roles and projects, including transliterating assembly languages, Unix administration, device driver development, and creating domain-specific language interpreters. John co-founded a startup in 1986 focused on developing a Medical Office Information Management System. He also worked at Ford Motor Co., where he designed and implemented a domain-specific language interpreter for electronic module test stands. Additionally, John improved system performance by reimplementing functions from Bourne shell to Perl at different points in his career.
