Joe Fitchett
Senior Adviser at Institut Pasteur de Dakar
Dr. Joe Fitchett is the Senior Adviser for Biotechnology at the Institut Pasteur de Dakar in Senegal.1 In this role, he is responsible for the IPD vaccine pipeline and oversees the strategy to launch new capabilities for developing and producing regionally-relevant countermeasures for epidemics.1 He is involved in several key projects, including:
- Project sponsor for the technology transfer of the first measles/rubella vaccine to be produced in Africa1
- Overseeing the IPD-CEPI partnering agreement for outbreak vaccines1
- Helping establish the Advanced Vaccine Bioprocessing lab and the Grand Challenges Sénégal innovation fund1
Prior to his current position, Dr. Fitchett's experience includes:

- Program Officer for Global Policy & Advocacy at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation from 2016 to 20181
Dr. Fitchett has a background in public health and infectious disease epidemiology from Harvard, clinical medicine from Imperial and Kings, and immunology of infectious diseases from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).1 He has been involved in various research projects, including the establishment of the TB Centre at LSHTM and work on the HIV self-testing Africa (STAR) initiative.1
