    Jing Yang

Associate Professor at UC San Diego

Jing Yang is a Professor of Pharmacology and Pediatrics at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD).12 She joined the faculty of UCSD in 2006 and is currently a professor at UCSD Moores Cancer Center.1 Yang's research focuses on understanding the molecular basis of tumor metastasis, combining various techniques such as cell and molecular biology tools, mouse tumor models, 3D organoid cultures, functional genomics, and 2D/3D imaging.14

Yang obtained her PhD in Molecular Cancer Biology from Duke University in 1999.1 She then completed a postdoctoral fellowship with Dr. Robert Weinberg at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research, where she identified a critical role of the Twist1 transcription factor and Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition (EMT) in tumor metastasis.15

At UCSD, Yang serves as the Co-Leader of the Cancer Biology and Signaling Program at Moores Cancer Center.3 Her laboratory continues to investigate the genes and signaling pathways responsible for EMT and tumor metastasis, with a focus on invadopodia-mediated extracellular matrix degradation, matrix stiffening, and epithelial polarity.14

Yang has received several awards for her work, including the NIH Director's New Innovators Award, the American Cancer Society Scholar award, and the John J. Abel Award from ASPET.3
