Jim Gemmell

Jim Gemmell is a seasoned technologist and the Chief Technology Officer at Aural Analytics, where he is at the forefront of developing technology that uses neuroscience to assess brain health objectively.

Having previously worked at Microsoft as a Senior Researcher, Jim Gemmell gained prominence as a leader in life-logging. He co-authored the book 'Your Life, Uploaded: The Digital Way to Better Memory, Health, and Productivity,' along with the Scientific American article 'A Digital Life.' In addition to his publications, he was instrumental in establishing the Microsoft Interaction & Intent research group, known for its market-driven research approach that led to innovative product development. His contributions included designing and overseeing the entity resolution system for Xbox TV & Movies and Bing's Movies, TV, Celebrities, and Events applications.

Furthermore, Jim Gemmell made significant contributions to Bing's features, such as the flight status answer and Twitter functionalities. He also represented Microsoft at the IETF standard body, co-authoring networking standards like PGM that were implemented in Windows.

During his tenure at Trōv, where he served as the CTO and co-founder, Jim Gemmell led a team of over 60 staff members, overseeing the development of iOS, Android, Web, and server applications, along with managing project managers and testers. Notably, a sizable portion of his team operated remotely. He played a pivotal role in the growth of Trōv, spearheading the development of the world's first on-demand insurance product.

Jim Gemmell's academic background includes pursuing a PhD in Computer Science at Simon Fraser University, an M. Math in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a BSc in Computer Science from Simon Fraser University.

His diverse professional journey includes roles such as Chief Technology Officer at Aural Analytics, Chief Technology Officer and Co-founder at Trōv, Senior Researcher at Microsoft, CEO at Torvue Computing, and Software Design Engineer at various organizations including MPR Teltech, MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates, and TRIUMF. Additionally, he served as an Instructor at Port Moody Senior Secondary School.
