Jianbo Gao
A passion to capture and image charge carrier motion when devices are at work!!
Jianbo Gao is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Brock University in Ontario, Canada.14 He joined Brock in 2022 after previously working as an Assistant Professor of Physics at Clemson University from 2017 to 2022.2 Gao is a pioneering researcher in the field of solar panel technology and photovoltaics.1 His work focuses on developing highly efficient and low-cost solar cells using advanced materials like quantum dots and perovskite nanocrystals.13
Gao received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Condensed Matter and Materials Physics from the University of Alberta, and an M.S. in Optics from Jilin University.2 He has held postdoctoral positions at Los Alamos National Laboratory and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.24
At Brock University, Gao leads the Ultrafast Photodynamics of Quantum Materials (UPQM) group, which focuses on three main research areas:
- Ultrafast carrier dynamics in devices
- Next-generation quantum devices
- Quantum materials synthesis and characterization4
Gao has published extensively in prestigious scientific journals, with over 6,000 citations to his work.13 In 2024, he received Brock University's Award for Early Career Research and Creative Activity for his breakthrough work on solar panel technology.1
