Project Ascend is a 6-week accelerated open-source code contribution class sponsored by the Mozilla Corporation.

Accomplishments include:
- making a usability bug fix in Webmaker using GitHub
- updating a Jekyll GitHub Pages blog
- exploring a Google maps related feature request with JavaScript
- giving a presentation on my experience for Mozilla TV
- documenting my experience and creating tutorials

I also learned:
- navigating and working in the command line, terminal, Mac OS X environment, bash commands
- Installing packages, setting up a development environment, hosting websites locally, configuring a local web server & running php, running test suites, doing manual QA tasks on Firefox software products, running automated tests on Firefox software products, running several instances of Firefox (multiple release channels) simultaneously.
- how to find, read, and edit documentation for various projects, learning version control (primarily git, some mercurial),  using github to collaborate & generating pull requests for their changes.
- Blogging weekly, using social media to participate in the larger tech & open-source community, communicating with senior developers while working on their code, fixing bugs, learning to use bug trackers (Bugzilla, GH issues).
- presenting to others, teaching each other, documenting their efforts, improving existing documentation, and learning about open source community while participating in it.

I served as an assistant English instructor at the Volzhky Institute of Humanities, an affiliate of Volgograd State University where I shared American poetry and taught writing and conversation skills. In addition, l translated Russian - English and studied Russian Art History and Intercultural Communication in Russian along with research on, media and digital literacy instruction.

- Adapted curriculum and proofread academic journal submissions
- Advised Russian university students and faculty on applying for grants
- Presented on U.S. Academic culture in addition to other aspects of U.S history and culture (Martin Luther King Jr., The Civil Rights Movement, American poetry and folk music , etc).
