At Submittable we build a set of modern cloud philanthropic SaaS applications serving a wide range of customers and markets. 

Over the last 2 years I have driven a set of transformative changes across the engineering team while delivering more features at a higher quality level. Several of these changes included introducing a new Science team and a new Program Management Office (PMO) team.  

The PMO was accountable for all of our engineering execution and planning with our Product team stakeholders. This required culture, process, and communication changes to really bring UX, Product, PMO, and Engineering all together on a plan. Fast forward to today the teams are regularly completing quarterly planning and delivering the roadmaps on time. 

Other changes affecting the full org included re-writing the career ladders and establishing mid year review cycles for the team. These changes made career progression and promotions a transparent process. The result is a healthy dialog between the employee/manager on how to get to the next level. 

I established the top 3 priorities on our team are Culture, Team, and  Product. The general philosophy is if we focus first on the team culture that binds the team together,  the engineering team can build any product the business needs us to build. Investing in our teams and people while maintaining super high quality standards is the key to long term success. 

We have taken the culture, team, org, and tech changes and completed massive upgrades to all parts of our stack. Our technology stacks include both AWS and Azure utilizing standard solutions such as S3, DynoDB, CosmosDB, Postgres, Kafka, and cloud native infrastructure. Our science workloads are powered by Azure running a set of both built in and customer models. On our infrastructure we leverage K8, ArgoCD, and infra as code.

I managed an engineering and science team within the Supply Chain Optimization Technology group at Amazon. I managed multiple functions across the software development lifecycle such as architecture, quality assurance, software engineering, systems engineering, and operating these services at global Amazon scale.  The systems and products that I oversaw are designed to improve Amazon's ability to source inventory for our customers with a focus on supply chain efficiency, reliability, and low cost. I have built a diverse engineering and machine learning team of managers, software engineers, product & program management, and scientists.

As a Director of Engineering, I manage several engineering teams including Promoted Products, Growth, Discovery, and our Automotive vertical business. We leverage ML for pattern analysis, targeting, and personalization. I am responsible for driving and owning the priority for engineering initiatives, including defining product scope, roadmap, architecture, and organizational alignment. We deliver large-scale online services, mobile and web clients, and the big data distributed systems to power the experience.

I help define and contribute to engineering-wide process for the company including quality and efficiency initiatives. In addition to product and engineering leadership, I oversee a host of other ancillary responsibilities such as team building, hiring, mentoring, process management, system architecture and partnerships.

Director Of Engineering

As VP of engineering at Bluetooth, I was responsible for the technology and tools used to support and drive
the members of the Bluetooth community as the spec evolves. I oversaw a large diverse engineering team
including developers, technical program managers, test engineers, cloud developers, SCRUM, and IT
operations.

At Bluetooth the team designs, builds, and ships a wide variety of products and technologies across both cloud
and desktop. All the products, services, and tools we ship are designed to help the Bluetooth community
shape the future of the standard.

In my leadership role I started with assessing and measuring the product inventory, stacks and platforms,
technical debt, along with the organizational debt of the team. I successfully drove the introduction of the
TPM role into the process of how software and services are built at the SIG. I drove and evangelized an
internal business shift to a product and customer-first mode of internal development. This is a process and
culture shift involving people, technology, and processes.

Along with this culture change to focus on products instead of projects, I created and delivered a new 36-
month technical vision (product, people, process, etc) for the company. This new technical vision has a 3-year
horizon window and will guide the technical direction moving forward. The vision outlines not only key
strategic initiatives, but also the first principals which drive those initiatives.
On the technology and engineering side, I have driven the update of all stacks and platforms used across our
product suite. This reduces operational costs and complexity, while enabling new scenarios for future
products.

As I move the team culture to focus on products, this has renewed the passion for innovation and customer
delight on the team. To help support this I oversaw the first machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence
(AI) projects at the SIG designed to spark innovation across the organization.

Bluetooth SIG

Vice President Of Engineering

I served as the Vice President for mobile engineering and products at INRIX. My role included ownership of all our mobile app and SDK products, our connected car apps and services, and our overall product user experience. My leadership included driving cross group efforts, working with key customers, product roadmap definition, strategy and planning.

I managed a multi discipline team responsible for all our mobile apps, including the cloud services and machine learning service which powered the apps. I also oversaw production of our OpenCar apps designed to cover the top 100 brands across categories such as music, news, and location services.

My scope included the product planning, vision, strategy and tactical execution to build and ship a suite of wide ranging products. I primarily focused on shipping products, hiring and retaining a strong team, and driving engineering excellence.

As an executive team member, I worked on corporate development and business issues, budgeting and finance, sales and partnerships, and technical investigations and due diligence.

● I oversaw and delivered multiple revisions to our mobile experiences driving adoption and attach. This
included everything from the raw scenario and feature planning, UX ideation and testing, software
engineering, quality metrics, to the product launch.

● I was responsible for the architecture and engineering of a new machine-learning platform designed to
power the mobile experiences. These are enterprise cloud services designed and tested for global
consumer scale.

● I oversaw the execution around our embedded Amazon Alexa experience for Automotive. This covered
the technology, business development, and UX design to deliver a full product solution.

● I oversaw the software engineering, planning, and UX design across a set of platforms such as iOS,
Android, cloud services, HTML5, and QNX.

INRIX

Vice President for Mobile Apps and Services

I co-founded and served as CTO of Buddy.com, a big data iOT company. The Buddy platform allows businesses
and governments to utilize real-time streaming device data to make important business decisions or initiate
automated actions.

Buddy Platform's cloud based data exchange can connect devices and sensors to the world's most popular
software tools, securely and in real time. Buddy has further leveraged this platform to introduce the “Ohm”
energy monitoring device.

● As CTO and employee #1, I built all the technology from the ground up. This included the architecture
and design of the cloud services, along with attracting and hiring an amazing team.

● I participated in the corporate development and fundraising for the company. I worked with investors
and the board developing business and sales plans, as well as driving engineering and product
roadmaps.

● I oversaw the engineering, product vision and roadmaps while building the first version of the
product. We built and delivered a new IOT and Mobile platform APIs that was used by customers all
over the world.

● The engineering required included cloud services, database design, geospatial data ingestion, real time
analytics, and client SDKs for half a dozen platforms.

● Today Buddy.com is a growing leader in the IOT and Big Data space, and a publicly listed Australian
stock (Symbol: BUD).

I worked as a Lead Program Manager within the Windows Embedded Business division at Microsoft, focusing on UX and App platform technologies for a wide range of devices including industrial automation and automotive.

I led a team, which defined and drove the execution on several products and technologies including Silverlight for Windows Embedded. As part of the embedded team, we focused heavily on performance and flexibility for embedded hardware and software devices including ARM, MIPS, Etc.

For the last 2 years at Microsoft I was part of the internal MS Bench program. 

Key Deliverables: 
•	Formulating and designing a brand new UX platform for the windows embedded product 
•	Recruiting, Hiring, and retaining top PM talent for this new initiative 
•	Working with vendors, 3rd party’s, and partners to deliver an end to end ecosystem

Senior Program Manager Lead

I co-founded and acted as CTO and architect at Zamdoo.com, where we built a big data website and service for Affiliate marketing.  

Zamdoo.com was designed to help affiliate marketers make smarter decisions around what ads to purchase. The product I designed and built tracked millions of various ad’s across all the networks (Google, Yahoo, MS, etC) and applied machine learning to judge ROI.

•	I was responsible for all the technology including the architecture, design, engineering, hosting, network topology, reporting, DB schema, and everything else to build the system.

•	I built management portals for our internal use, the marketing public site, the internal customer dashboard, and of course the core service. 

•	At its height, Zamdoo was tracking 100M ads across MSN, Yahoo, and Google ad networks in near real time. 

•	The business ran profitably form day 1 and the core technology was incorporated into the Buddy.com IOT platform.

Zamdoo, LLC

I co-founded and acted as CTO and architect at Hoofjaw.com, where we built a niche B2B music content product.  

•	We provided professional music track files to recording studios, musicians, and bands looking for samples.  Conceptually it was similar to iTunes, but targeted at a niche market.

•	My role was to build and design the architecture, as well as operate all the technology related to the business from development of the scenarios to deployment and monitoring. 
 
•	Our business revolved around serving digital content, we had to build out a full payment platform, digital rights management, suppliers licensing agreements, etc.  

•	This was effectively the first startup I built, deployed, and monetized as a commercial business. It operated as a profitable business for 5+ years. The core technology and foundations were incorporated into Buddy.com.

Hoofjaw, LLC

I led a team of 10 full time software engineers and 30+ contract testers in 2 in countries. My team was responsible for identifying market penetration of printers, scanners, and multi-function devices, testing end to end scenarios, working with program management to triage and handle issues found, and working with 3rd party engineers to deliver fixes.
 
Beyond working within the printing and imaging team, I also served as the sole test lead/manager for the Origami project. In this role, I worked as the head of test for the product, the build engineer, and the release manager.  This was a brand new product and a brand new hardware platform.
 
Key Deliverables:
•	Large distributed test environment running thousands of tests daily
•	Working with product planners, program managers, and developers across teams
•	Working with core partners to identify performance and stability problems
•	Top presenter at several conferences focused at Printer and Scanner hardware vendors

Lead Software Developer In Test

Developer of automated test tool systems in the Windows Printing and Imaging Team. Primary focus was on application compatibility with 3rd party printer drivers.

The test work included building distributed and load balanced test infrastructure, working with the Windows Hardware Quality Labs team, interacting with partners to debug issues, and helping train other team remembers.

The development technology centered on C++ covering products such as Windows XP, and Windows Server.

Key Deliverables: 
•	Delivery of the first automated WHQL toolkit for printing
•	Worked with developers to debug and triage failures of OS development 
•	Training of new staff for testing of drivers in the US, Japan, and India.

Software Developer In Test

Working in the Windows Printing And Imaging group at Microsoft. I drove a test and verification effort for third party print components as part of the Windows 2000 product development. 

Worked with many of the top printing partners , drove internal reporting and test tool development, worked program management and developer groups.
