Jeff Jackson is an American politician, attorney, and military officer currently serving as the U.S. Representative for North Carolina's 14th Congressional District since January 2023.
Background and Education
Jackson was born on September 12, 1982. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve in 2002 and served in the Kandahar Province during the War in Afghanistan. He now serves in the Judge Advocate General's Corps with the Army National Guard.2
Career
- Military and Legal Career: After his military service, Jackson worked as an assistant district attorney in Gaston County and later as counsel at Womble Bond Dickinson.2
- State Legislature: Jackson represented the 37th district in the North Carolina Senate from 2014 to 2022. He was known for his advocacy on various issues, including expanding pre-K education, increasing the minimum wage, expanding Medicaid, and making housing more affordable. He also championed access to safe, legal abortion and introduced legislation to close a consent loophole in North Carolina's sexual assault laws.24
- U.S. House of Representatives: Following redistricting, Jackson announced his candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives in the new 14th Congressional District, which includes parts of Mecklenburg and Gaston counties. He won the general election in 2022, defeating Republican nominee Pat Harrigan with 58% of the vote.12

In the U.S. House, Jackson serves on the Committee on Armed Services and the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. Specifically, he is on the subcommittees for Intelligence and Special Operations, Tactical Air and Land Forces, Space and Aeronautics, and Investigations and Oversight.2
Current and Future Plans
Due to new district maps drawn by Republicans that would have made his reelection difficult, Jackson announced in October 2023 that he would run for North Carolina Attorney General in the 2024 election. He won the Democratic primary on March 5, 2024, and will face Republican Dan Bishop in the November election.3
Personal Life
Jackson is married to Marisa Jackson and lives in Charlotte with their three children. He was named one of Charlotte Magazine's Charlotteans of the Year in 2020.2
