    Jeff Erlich

    Assistant Professor at NYU Shanghai

Jeffrey Erlich is an Assistant Professor of Neural and Cognitive Science at New York University Shanghai. He began his academic journey with undergraduate studies in Computer Science and Neuroscience at McGill University, where he gained initial experience in rat electrophysiology. He earned his PhD from New York University, working under Joseph LeDoux, and was supported by a Howard Hughes Predoctoral Fellowship. Following his doctoral studies, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Princeton University in Carlos Brody's lab, contributing to significant research on rodent cognition and decision-making processes.123

In 2015, Erlich established his own lab at NYU Shanghai, focusing on decision-making in various species, including rats, mice, humans, and synthetic agents. His work has received support from the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality and the National Science Foundation of China. As of January 2022, he also serves as a Group Leader at the Sainsbury Wellcome Centre at UCL, where he continues to explore the behavioral, computational, and neurobiological foundations of cognition.124

Erlich's research interests encompass a wide range of topics related to cognitive control, attention, and memory processes, particularly how competing sensory inputs influence decision-making behavior.3
