Jean Flechet

Jean-François Flechet is the Founder and Chief Waffle Officer at Taste of Belgium, a popular restaurant group based in Cincinnati, Ohio. Originally from Belgium, Flechet moved to the U.S. to pursue a PhD and later established Taste of Belgium in 2007 at Cincinnati's historic Findlay Market. His goal was to introduce authentic Belgian waffles to American diners, using a traditional cast iron waffle maker he brought from Belgium.123

Under Flechet's leadership, Taste of Belgium has expanded significantly, now operating nine locations and employing over 600 staff members. The restaurant's menu features not only waffles but also a variety of Belgian beers and other dishes, reflecting the rich culinary heritage of Belgium. Flechet is known for his innovative approach to restaurant management, offering competitive employee benefits and striving to elevate the hospitality profession in the U.S..12

In recognition of his contributions to promoting Belgian culture and brewing in the United States, Flechet was awarded the title of Honorary Knight of the Brewer's Paddle in 2023 by the Knighthood of the Belgian Brewers.13 His commitment to quality and community has made Taste of Belgium a beloved establishment in the region.
