Jay Scheib

Jay Scheib is an internationally renowned director, designer, and author of plays, operas, and live art events.13 Born in Shenandoah, Iowa, he is known for his genre-defying performances and integration of new technologies in live performances.13

Scheib is currently a Professor for Music and Theater Arts at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).23 He has received numerous accolades, including:

• Named Best New York Theater Director by Time Out New York in 200913
• Listed as one of the 25 theater artists shaping the next 25 years of American theater by American Theater Magazine13
• Recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship, MIT Edgerton Award, Richard Sherwood Award, and an OBIE Award for Best Direction23

• Directing Richard Wagner's "Parsifal" for Bayreuther Festspiele in 20232
• Staging Jim Steinman's "Bat Out of Hell" in London's West End2
• Directing the opera "Valis" based on Philip K. Dick's novel2

Scheib holds an MFA in Directing from Columbia University School of the Arts.2
