Jay Mittal

Jay Mittal is an Associate Professor at Auburn University with over 24 years of professional and academic experience in Urban Planning, Real Estate, and GIS.1 He holds a PhD in Regional Development Planning and an MBA from the University of Cincinnati, as well as a Master's in Urban & Regional Planning from CEPT University, India.1

Dr. Mittal has been teaching at Auburn University since 2011, initially as an Assistant Professor and later promoted to Associate Professor in 2017.1 He served as the Director of the Graduate Community Planning Program from 2017 to 2020.1 His teaching focuses on Urban Economics, Real Estate Principles, Real Estate Market Analysis, and GIS for Planners.1

Dr. Mittal has published over 20 journal articles and book chapters in notable planning and real estate journals.2 He received the 2020 Kenneth J. Groves Jr. Distinguished Leadership Award from the American Planning Association (Alabama Chapter) for his significant contributions to the planning profession.2

In addition to his academic work, Dr. Mittal has experience in private consulting and has collaborated with various cities and organizations on urban planning and development projects.2 He has also taught executive courses internationally and advised on economic development initiatives.21
