Jay Flores is a prominent STEM advocate, serving as a Mystery Science Guide at Discovery Education, where he engages K-5 students by answering their science-related questions. His role involves nurturing curiosity and making science accessible and entertaining for young learners. He addresses inquiries such as “How were LEGO bricks invented?” and “Why don’t people fall out of roller coasters when they go upside down?”.12
In addition to his work with Discovery Education, Jay is the founder of Invent The Change, an initiative aimed at promoting STEM education. He is also known for his appearances on NBC’s American Ninja Warrior and for hosting PBS’s innovation show Make48. His experience extends to over 75 episodes of various television programs, including those on Telemundo and ESPN.13
Jay holds a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and has been recognized by the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) for his contributions to STEM advocacy. He served as the youngest voting national board member in SHPE's history.34 Through his dynamic presentations and outreach efforts, Jay aims to inspire the next generation of innovators and problem solvers in the field of STEM.
