(1/2) Random Rabbit Hole 🕳️ : OVT & Medical Self-Experimentation
My initial kick down this rabbit hole was Beate Halassy's treatment of her own breast cancer.
As a virologist herself, she used a method of oncolytic virotherapy (OVT) to successfully treat her own breast cancer. There are no FDA approved OVTs to treat breast cancer on the market (+60 clinical trials)—mind blowing that there are no approved therapies, given that the underlying OVT mechanism was first discovered in the 1950's.
There have been a lot of great breakdowns of her treatment path, including this tweet thread / Nature article by @NTFabiano here: https://t.co/Vrueq0YJzK
I don't disagree in principle, but the reality of many of these "straightforward" workflows are rarely as straightforward as they outwardly appear.
Counter-positioned AI business should expect to spend a tremendous amount of time solving the long-tail.
