Janette Monear

Janette Monear is a renowned expert in urban forestry and sustainable design. She is the President/CEO of the Texas Trees Foundation, where she aims to create resilient communities and promote environmental integrity through green infrastructure and tree planting. Monear's career began in advertising and promotion, but her passion for urban forestry led her to work in the nonprofit sector. She is a visionary, skilled in organizational development and leadership, and has helped develop national organizations, including the Saint John's University Arboretum.

Under Monear's leadership, the Texas Trees Foundation launched the Tree North Texas regional initiative in 2010, which aimed to plant 3 million trees by 2020 to mitigate environmental challenges, spur economic development, and "green, clean, and cool" North Texas. In 2015, Monear spearheaded the State of the Dallas Urban Forest Report, which resulted in several significant projects, including the Southwestern Medical District Streetscape Master Planning, Cool Schools, NeighborWoods, and Downtown Dallas.

Monear is a frequent speaker at national and local conferences and has published several training and professional manuals and reports. She co-produced, wrote the narration of, and edited the Telly Award-winning Public Television Documentary, Spirit of the Trees. Monear's mantra is that "economic development in the absence of environmental integrity is not sustainable," and she is dedicated to connecting people to the land and creating a sense of place where everyone can thrive.
