Director of the Eagle Scholars Program at Vickery Meadow Youth Development Foundation
Janet Morrison-Lane is the Executive Director of the Vickery Meadow Youth Development Foundation (VMYDF), where she has played a pivotal role in the development and expansion of the EAGLE Scholars Program since she joined in 2012. Initially starting as the program's director, she transformed it from a short, five-week summer initiative into a comprehensive year-round college readiness program. Under her leadership, the program has achieved impressive outcomes: approximately 93% of scholars transition directly to college after high school, with an average of $14,000 in financial aid, and about 71% graduate from four-year universities.12
Dr. Morrison-Lane holds a Bachelor of Social Work from Harding University, a Master of Science in Reading, and a Doctorate in Supervision, Curriculum, and Instruction from Texas A&M University-Commerce. Her commitment to education and community service is evident through her various roles, including being a Leadership ISD Fellow, serving on the board of the Friends of the Dallas Public Library, and contributing to local media as a writer for the Dallas Morning News Community Voices.12
Her approach emphasizes building strong relationships with students and fostering their voices within the program. This relationship-centered methodology not only supports academic achievement but also prepares students for personal and professional success beyond high school.23
