Janet Edwards

Retired Swedish National Focal Point Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction at MSB

Janet Edwards is a highly educated professional with a diverse background in geography and disaster risk reduction. She pursued Doctorate courses in Geography at Gothenburg University, obtained a Master's degree in Geography from California State University-Northridge, and accomplished her Bachelor's degree in Natural, Cultural, and Economic Geography from the University of California, Los Angeles. Janet also received a High School education in Natural sciences and languages at Notre Dame Academy.

Throughout her career, Janet has held various key positions in notable organizations. She currently serves as a Program Manager in the Cooperation Area for Crisis Management, focusing on the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction at the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB). Previously, she was the International Coordinator for the Swedish National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction and a Senior Advisor at MSB. Janet has also worked as the EU and International Affairs Coordinator at the Swedish Rescue Services Agency, a Risk Management Project Leader at the Swedish Rescue Services Department, and in GIS roles at Lantmäteriet: the Swedish Land Survey.

In addition to her extensive government roles, Janet has a background in academia as a Geography teacher, instructing undergraduate courses in theory and GIS laboratories at Karlstad University. She also has experience as a Natural Resource Specialist in park planning and as a Park Ranger at the National Park Service.

With a rich educational foundation and a wide range of professional experiences, Janet Edwards brings a wealth of expertise in geography, disaster risk reduction, crisis management, international affairs, GIS, and education.
