Janet Chang
Aspiring psychiatrist-physician for trauma survivors
Janet Chang, a cognitive neuroscience undergraduate at Brown University, is studying clinical psychiatry, PTSD, depression, anxiety, and socio-political conditions for cultural and race-based trauma. With a focus on public health solutions, Chang is also interested in brain imaging and stimulation techniques, accessibility of mental health for all socio-cultural minorities, resilience and survivorship, and in-depth studies comparing the Holocaust and China’s Cultural Revolution.
Chang took an 8-year hiatus from university to battle a debilitating medical condition and turned her focus to start a health-centric co-living community in the San Francisco Bay Area. Additionally, she pursued a career in competitive short-track speedskating in the Olympics sport and explored the technology startup sector. During this time, Chang successfully managed a digital publishing startup with seven staff spread across Singapore, Poland, and New York City.
Chang advocated for the systemic problems of Western medicine and healthcare institutions and was invited to speak at prestigious universities such as Stanford, UCLA, and Harvard. She also covered underrecognized psychoactive medications for the treatment of PTSD in interviews with mainstream media outlets like Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan Australia, and New Scientist UK. Moreover, Chang published personal health experiments in numerous publications such as Medium, WellnessFX, and Stanford AAAI Spring Symposium Journal.
