South was born in Manchester, UK.12 She received a BFA in Theatre Design from Central School of Art in 1987 and an MFA in Painting and Sculpture from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro in 1997.1 Before moving to the United States in 1989, South worked in experimental theater.1
