Dr. James J. Zhu is a prominent figure in the field of intellectual property law, currently serving as a partner at JunHe LLP and leading the firm's intellectual property group and Silicon Valley Office.
With a rich background that includes partnering with international clients for patent rights in China, James offers strategic patent counseling for companies entering the Chinese market, conducts comprehensive IP due diligence in investments and M&A deals, and actively engages in IP litigation in China.
Having previously spent eight years at Perkin Coie LLP, where he eventually became a partner and managed the firm's Los Angeles and Beijing offices, James boasts a diverse career journey.
Before his legal ventures, James co-founded GanTech International and served as its General Counsel, where he drove fundraising and business development efforts. He also held leadership roles at China United On-Line and conducted research as a scientist at Merck during the early 90s.
A respected author and speaker on intellectual property matters, James has been recognized by various organizations for his contributions to the legal and business communities. He was elected as one of the most influential 'sea turtles' in the Sino-American community by BusinessWeek and has been named a Market Leading Attorney by AsianLaw since 2016.
James holds an impressive educational background, including a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Caltech, an MBA in Finance from Columbia Business School, a JD in Intellectual Property & Corporate Law from Columbia University School of Law, and a B.S. in Biology from Fudan University.
