James Salter

James Salter is an accomplished engineering leader with extensive experience in technical creativity, product engineering, and people management. With a strong belief in distributed decision-making, he advocates for giving teams clarity and autonomy to achieve their goals. James has been part of several organizations where he has managed managers and ICs in cross-functional, agile teams. He is skilled in building and running systems at scale and has expertise in ML and NLP to solve user problems. James holds a BSc (Hon.) and an MSc degree in Computer Science, both from UNSW, and studied at Sydney Boys High. He has held several leadership positions, including Vice President of Engineering at Memrise, Engineering Manager at Stripe, and Senior Engineering Manager (Product Engineering) at Element. James has also been the Head of Product Engineering, Platform Lead, and a Software Architect at Memrise, and a Software Engineer and Technical Team Lead - Mobile at IRESS, among others. With his extensive experience and skills, James is a well-known name in the engineering industry who has made a significant impact in every organization he has worked with.
