James Pritchett
Leader, Process Redesign and Analysis at Learning Ally
James Pritchett is a music scholar, writer, and retired technology director based in Princeton, New Jersey.1 He worked at Learning Ally (formerly Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic) for 24 years and 5 months, from September 1999 to January 2024, as the Director of Enterprise Systems.1 In this role, he oversaw technical aspects of design, development, and prototyping of new products and services, led projects for audiobook and digital text products, managed production systems, and served on technical panels for accessible textbook standards.1
Pritchett has a Ph.D. in Music from New York University, which he obtained between 1981 and 1988.1 His background includes experience as a freelance writer and researcher, during which he wrote the first comprehensive critical account of John Cage's musical works.1 He also worked as a freelance software developer at Princeton University's Winham Laboratory, collaborating with composers on computer music projects.1
After retiring from Learning Ally in 2024, Pritchett has been focusing on reading, studying music, writing, volunteering, meditating, and exploring new interests.1 He founded the nonprofit Princeton Insight Meditation, Inc. in 2017 to foster a local community of Buddhist meditation practitioners.1
