James Massol
Professional Bassoonist and Educator
James Massol is a music educator and administrator with a diverse academic background. He served as an Adjunct Professor of Music at the University of North Florida from August 2010 to May 2011.34 Currently, Dr. Massol is a professor of music history at Manhattan School of Music, where he teaches courses in chamber music, orchestral music, Puccini, and works for voices and orchestra.12
Dr. Massol is also the founder and executive director of Opera Lucca, managing all administrative aspects of the program.1 He holds degrees from the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music and the University of Colorado, and was a Fulbright recipient to Germany.1
His scholarly interests focus on semiotics, instrumental music, and Puccini. Dr. Massol has presented research at conferences, including a presentation titled "Stylistic Modulation in Il tabarro" at the Trittico centennial conference in Italy.1
In addition to his academic roles, Dr. Massol formerly played bassoon with the Savannah Philharmonic.1 He also teaches music history and theory at Mahanaim College.1
