James Chan, Founder, Chairman & CEO at Ion Mobility
James Chan is the Founder, Chairman & CEO of Ion Mobility, a company he founded in November 2019 to build Southeast Asia's top electric vehicle (EV) mobility company.12 Ion Mobility designs, assembles and supports EV motorcycles for Indonesia and Vietnam, with a focus on offering performance-superior, cost-competitive connected/smart EV motorcycles that are "made for" and "made in" the region.2
Prior to Ion Mobility, James was the Founder & CEO of Silicon Straits, an innovation tribe that made early-stage investments and helped tech entrepreneurs and startups with strategy, financing and go-to-market.2 He also co-founded Neoteny Labs, a US$5M early-stage venture fund that invested in 24 internet and open hardware startups across the US, UK and Asia Pacific.2
James has held various leadership roles at other companies, including:
- Director (Asia Pacific) and CEO (Asia Pacific) at Wecash, where he spearheaded the Group's entry into Southeast Asia2
- Vice President (International) at GreyOrange, driving the company's APAC growth and expansion with a focus on Greater China, Japan and Southeast Asia2
- Transitional Executive at IMDA (now IMDA), where he studied and proposed refinements to the agency's succession planning and talent retention initiatives2
James holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and a Masters in Management Science from Stanford University.1 He is passionate about mobile, social media, consumer electronics, emerging tech, venture capital and hardware.1
