Izhak Zamir

Izhak Zamir (also spelled Yitzhak Zamir) is a prominent Israeli legal scholar and former public official born on April 15, 1931, in Warsaw, Poland.1 He immigrated to Israel at the age of three.1 Zamir has had a distinguished career in law and public service:

1. Academic career:

   • Professor of public law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem1
   • Dean of the Hebrew University's Faculty of Law (1975-1978)1
   • First Dean of the University of Haifa's Law Faculty (1991-1994)1

   • Attorney General of Israel (1978-1986)1
   • Judge of the Supreme Court of Israel (1994-2001)1
   • President of the Journalist Council (1988-1991)1

Zamir is known for his contributions to Israeli law and his stance on ethical issues, including his demand for an investigation into the GSS during the Kav 300 affair.1 After his retirement from the Supreme Court, he has continued to be involved in legal and ethical matters, including heading the Jerusalem Center for Ethics and leading a committee to create ethical rules for Knesset members.1
