Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture at Auburn University
Isaac Cohen is an Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture at Auburn University, where he is part of the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture (APLA). He joined the faculty in the fall of 2022 after spending a decade in Dallas, Texas, where he worked extensively on urban public space and park issues. Cohen holds a bachelor's degree in studio art from Vassar College and a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Virginia.12
His professional experience includes working as an Associate at Studio Outside Landscape Architecture in Dallas, where he contributed to various projects, including the Dallas Water Commons, a 17-acre park designed to manage stormwater while serving educational purposes.1 Cohen's research interests focus on the intersection of landscape architecture and social justice, specifically examining how park systems can reflect and perpetuate racial segregation. He is currently updating his research with data from the 2020 U.S. Census to explore these themes further.1
Cohen is also dedicated to community engagement and aims to foster relationships that honor local histories and contexts. His recent work includes receiving a seed grant to document significant historic and cultural landscapes in Alabama, which aligns with his goal to enrich students' experiences and understanding of local issues.1
