Ioannis Diamantis
Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Maastricht University School of Business and Economics
Ioannis Diamantis is a geometric-topologist specializing in knot theory, braid groups, and 3-manifolds. His research focuses on constructing Jones-type invariants for knots and links in 3-manifolds using knot algebras and Markov traces. He has also delved into the study of tied links, pseudo knots, and knotoids, introducing concepts like tied pseudo knots and pseudo knotoids with applications to biological objects like DNA and Proteins.
He has received teaching awards and research awards from China Agricultural University. Additionally, he has been involved in research visits to institutions like Harbin Engineering University, MF Oberwolfach in Germany, and Derby University in the UK where he shared his expertise on topics like skein modules and engineering mathematics.
Ioannis has served as the local organizer of the International Conference on Knots, Low-dimensional topology, and applications in 2016. He has also organized seminars on Low-dimensional topology and Knot theory at China Agricultural University, showcasing his commitment to sharing knowledge and promoting academic collaboration.
His academic journey includes a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mathematics from the National Technical University of Athens, a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Mathematics from the same institution, and a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Mathematics from Ethnikon kai Kapodistriakon Panepistimion Athinon. Professionally, he has held roles such as Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Maastricht University School of Business and Economics, Visiting Professor at China Agricultural University, and Postdoctoral Researcher at the National Technical University of Athens.
Before his academic career, Ioannis worked as a Weather Observer in the Hellenic Air Force and held various teaching and instructor positions at the National Technical University of Athens and other educational institutions.
