Ilan Jacobs
ESG and Government Affairs Specialist at Citi
Ilan Jacobs is a Managing Director and Head of UK Government Affairs at Citi, a position he has held since January 2024.2 He joined Citi's Global Government Affairs team in February 2015 and was promoted to Managing Director in December 2022.1
Jacobs is an expert in Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) regulation and policy, regularly writing and speaking on ESG developments.1 He leads Citi's public policy and political engagement in the UK, with over 25 years of experience in financial services policy and regulation.1
Prior to Citi, Jacobs worked at GE in various roles, including developing GE UK's public affairs programme and leading Government Affairs and Policy work for GE Capital across Europe.1 He also worked as Head of Public Affairs at the Internet Bank Egg and as an aide to Peter Mandelson in the 1990s.1
Jacobs holds several industry positions, including:
- Vice Chair of the Financial Services Committee and Sustainable Finance Task Force of the American Chamber of Commerce to the European Union
- Co-Chair of the International Regulatory Strategy Group's (IRSG) Sustainable Finance Taxonomy Working Group1
He is also a Governor and former Chair of Alma Primary, a state school in the London Borough of Barnet.1 Jacobs has a background in Law, having studied at BPP Law School, and holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Leeds.
