Hung Cao

Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and Computer Science

Hung Cao is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). He specializes in the fields of electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, and computer science, with a focus on micro-bio-sensors and bioelectronics for health monitoring and biological studies.

Education and Career

B.Sc. in Electronics and Telecommunications from Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Vietnam (2003).
M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington (2007 and 2012, respectively).
Served as a lecturer at Vietnam Maritime University (2003-2005).
Completed postdoctoral training in bioengineering and medicine at the University of Southern California (2012-2013) and UCLA (2013-2014).
Worked as a research faculty at ETS in Montreal, Canada (2014-2015).
Served as an Assistant Professor of Electrical and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Washington (2015-2018) before joining UCI in September 2018.

Research Focus

Cao's research includes the development of flexible microelectronics for studying heart disease, particularly in zebrafish models. He leads the HERO lab, which explores applications of biosensors in health monitoring. His work has received funding from various institutions, including the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
