Dr. Hugh Possingham, a distinguished figure in the field of mathematics and conservation science, serves as the Queensland Chief Scientist in the Department of Environment and Science. Additionally, he is a Professor at the University of Queensland, with a remarkable academic record that includes over 685 refereed research papers and supervision of 91 PhD students. Possingham boasts a Web of Science h-index of 105 and has secured over $80 million in competitive grants. He is a Foreign Associate of the US National Academy of Sciences since 2016 and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science since 2005. His contributions to the Ecological Society of America have earned him the distinction of being the first Australian elected as a Fellow.
