Hongchan Choi is a renowned music technologist, software engineer, and educator with a diverse background in engineering, music, and acoustics. He currently works as a Tech Lead and Manager at Google, with the objective of unlocking the potential of web music software and novel devices. Hongchan has been working collaboratively with industry partners and developers to create innovative functionalities on the browser. Hongchan also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Stanford University, where he teaches Computer Music, which he also studied for his PhD and MA. Before moving to Silicon Valley, Hongchan spent years creating and teaching electronic music in South Korea. Hongchan received his Bachelor's Degree in Information Engineering from Sungkyunkwan University and pursued his Master's and Doctorate in Computer Music Composition from Dongguk University. Afterward, he went on to pursue a Master's and Doctorate in Computer-Based Music Theory and Acoustics from the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA) at Stanford University. Hongchan also Co-chaired the Audio Working Group at W3C and has interned at Google as a PhD Engineering Intern. In his studio director role at Dongguk University, he had an opportunity to help students follow in his footsteps by guiding them through their studies. With over a decade of academic and professional experience, Hongchan has a vast network of achievements and continues to deepen his knowledge of music technology and acoustics. His passion for the intersection of music and technology is evident in all he does, and his goal is not only to share that love with others but to advance and transform the industry into a more innovative and exciting space.
