Henry Steere

Henry Steere is a talented professional with a diverse background in software engineering, data analysis, and mathematics. With a keen interest in functional programming, classical music, and AI, he thrives in collaborative team environments.

Currently, Henry is a Scala Engineer at GrapheneDB in Johannesburg, where he leverages his expertise in Scala and JavaScript to develop a Robo Advisor. His responsibilities span across API development, identity management, third party integrations, configuration systems, code generation, and user interface enhancements. He also actively contributes to architectural decisions concerning software deployment.

Prior to his role at GrapheneDB, Henry honed his skills at Touchsides, working on Android applications using Java, REST APIs and WCF services with C#, and deploying databases and servers on Microsoft Azure. His accomplishments include migrating version control to git, managing build servers with TeamCity, and establishing private NuGet servers.

Before Touchsides, Henry was deeply involved in multithreaded, networked application and server development, utilizing C++ and C servers, working with Google WebRTC in C++, and implementing Java for analytics projects with Apache Storm. He also specialized in integrating C++ libraries into C# applications and collaborated with Vowpal Wabbit on topic modelling.

Henry's academic pedigree is impressive, holding a Master's degree in Mathematics from the University of the Witwatersrand, where he previously excelled in his undergraduate studies majoring in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics. He has also pursued ALM Data Science at Harvard Extension School and completed his high school education at Michaelhouse.

In his previous positions at Africa Health Placements and Seecrypt Group Inc., Henry showcased his versatility by developing websites using various tech stacks like MEAN (MongoDB, Express, AngularJS, NodeJS), implementing server-side JavaScript for internal reporting, and conducting data analysis using Python (pandas and numpy) and R. He has a strong affinity for continuous learning, having completed around 40 courses in functional programming, computer science, engineering, and data science from renowned platforms like Coursera, EdX, and MIT professional education.
