Hendrell Remus

Hendrell Remus is the Chair of the Tennessee Democratic Party, elected in January 2021 as the first Black person to hold this position in the state's history.14 He was unanimously re-elected for a second term in January 2023.2
Remus has a background in business management and public safety. He previously worked as:
- Director of Emergency Management at Tennessee State University (August 2021 - February 2024)5
- Assistant Director of Emergency Management at Tennessee State University (January 2018 - August 2021)5
- Security Operations Manager at Allied Universal (September 2014 - January 2018)5
As Chair, Remus focused on building a stronger party infrastructure, working to break the Republican supermajority, and investing in local campaigns.1 He implemented the party's first 10-year plan, aiming to increase voter turnout and engage county Democratic parties.3
Remus is a native of Memphis and a graduate of Excelsior College.14 He currently resides in Memphis with his wife Marlene and their two children.1
In August 2024, Remus announced that he would not seek a third term as Chair when party leadership elections come around in January 2025.3
