Hend Zaki
Senior Advisor at Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE)
Hend Zaki is a Senior Advisor for the Welcoming Communities programme at Immigration New Zealand/Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE).1 She focuses on inclusion, diversity, and community participation, supporting the expansion and strengthening of the Welcoming Communities program across New Zealand.1
Dr. Zaki holds a PhD in Politics and International Relations from the University of Auckland, where her research centered on the identity of Muslims in New Zealand and Australia. She has worked at MBIE since January 2017 in various roles related to refugee and migrant support, as well as inclusion and diversity.2
Hend Zaki is passionate about creating welcoming, inclusive, and safe environments. She is the Founder and Co-Chair of the Women of Colour in the Public Sector Network (WOCPSN) and previously co-founded the Women of Colour (WOC) Network at MBIE.2 In recognition of her efforts, she received the Rising Star Award in 2022 from the Government Women's Network.2
Dr. Zaki has developed the "Rahma" programme, which aims to support leaders in creating more welcoming and inclusive environments.2 She brings a wealth of experience from her work with various international organizations, including roles at the New Zealand Embassy in Cairo, the League of Arab States Headquarters, IFES, and the United Nations.
Originally from Egypt, Hend Zaki moved to New Zealand in 2015 with her husband and two daughters.2 Her work contributes to fostering inclusive communities and building cross-cultural understanding in New Zealand.
