    Hank Thomas

    Artist-at-large

Hank Thomas is a photo-conceptual artist known for employing popular culture and advertising in his work to address themes of race, class, and history in a manner accessible to all.

His art aims to spark conversations about often overlooked social issues, drawing connections between past historical challenges faced by African Americans and contemporary societal perspectives.

Thomas creates two-dimensional and digital time-based collage pieces that bring historical narratives to the forefront, exploring how past visual culture influences our present-day understanding of race, class, and gender.

He holds an MFA in Photography and Visual Criticism from California College of the Arts, a BFA in Photography and Africana Studies from New York University, and has studied at Duke Ellington.

With a background as a former Professor at California College of the Arts, and experience as an Artsy at Cause Collective, Thomas brings a rich artistic and educational perspective to his work.
