Gret Glyer
Founder at DonorSee - We're hiring!
Gret Glyer was the founder and CEO of DonorSee, a humanitarian crowdfunding platform that aims to help people in the world's poorest countries.1 He founded the company in March 2016 after experiencing firsthand the extreme poverty in Malawi during his time there in 2013.2
Background and Inspiration
Glyer's journey began when he moved to Malawi in 2013, where he encountered severe poverty that deeply affected him. He met individuals like Rosina, a 70-year-old woman who hadn't eaten in a week and needed a new house, and Emily, a young orphan who lost her mother due to lack of funds for a hospital visit.2 These experiences motivated Glyer to start fundraising and making videos to share the stories of those in need with his friends and family back in America.
Founding DonorSee
In 2016, Glyer launched DonorSee with a two-part mission: to bring hope to those in need and to share the joy of that hope with those who made it possible.2 The platform allows aid workers to post projects and stories from the countries they serve, enabling donors to see the direct impact of their contributions through raw video updates.1
Achievements and Growth
Under Glyer's leadership, DonorSee:
- Raised over $4.9 million and changed countless lives
- Partnered with over 100 non-profits in 38 countries
- Was featured in major publications like USA Today, HuffPost, and Forbes
- Raised over $2 million during the pandemic2
Tragic End and Legacy
Tragically, on June 24, 2022, Gret Glyer was found shot dead in his home in Fairfax, Virginia.14 He was 32 years old and left behind a wife and daughter.5 Despite this devastating loss, the DonorSee team remains committed to continuing Glyer's vision of ending extreme poverty.3
In memory of Glyer, DonorSee announced plans to host 'Humanity Day' on September 26th, which is DonorSee's birthday, to honor his legacy and continue his mission.6
