CEO at Mine Digital
Grant Colthup is the former CEO of Mine Digital, an Australian cryptocurrency exchange that operated from May 2019 to September 2022.12 He is currently facing serious legal troubles. Colthup has been charged with fraud by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) in connection with a $2.2 million AUD ($1.47 million USD) cryptocurrency transaction in July 2022.23
The allegations against Colthup are as follows:
- A customer paid $2.2 million AUD to ACCE Australia Pty Ltd (Mine Digital's parent company) for Bitcoin but never received the cryptocurrency.12
- Colthup allegedly used the funds to pay ACCE's liabilities and/or purchase cryptocurrency for others instead of delivering Bitcoin to the customer.12
Colthup appeared in the Magistrates Court at Ipswich, Queensland, on October 21, 2024, charged with one count of fraud.2 The case has been adjourned until December 16, 2024.2 If found guilty under section 408C of Queensland's Criminal Code 1899, Colthup could face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.1
Mine Digital collapsed in September 2022, leaving creditors seeking to recover approximately $16 million in owed funds.14 The company's liquidator, Brad Tonks of PKF, has been considering legal action against Colthup to recover the missing funds.1
As of February 2025, Colthup's previous email address and phone number are disconnected, and his LinkedIn profile has been removed.5
