Graeme Steverson - The Olympics Legacy Changemaker
Graeme Steverson is a Technical Director in Sydney, Australia, with over 30 years of experience in consulting and the public sector.14 He has gained this experience through his roles in both the public and private sector, although most of his experience has been in the consulting industry co-designing with and supporting government clients.1
As a geographer, his technical passion is in the area of strategic transport planning at the state, city and precinct scale.1 He has a particular interest in regional planning having been raised and educated in the outer metropolitan cities of Wollongong and Newcastle in New South Wales.1
Planning for effective and attractive public transport has been a feature of his career from designing transport interchanges to working on the feasibility, planning and design of public transport infrastructure and services such as the Newcastle, Canberra and Parramatta Light Rail networks, Sydney Metro West and the Greater Sydney Rapid Bus Network.1
Major Event Experience
The most fun and rewarding projects he gets to do involve sport and recreation.1 He has undertaken planning and operational roles for 12 major world events including 5 Olympics, 3 Commonwealth Games, 2 Paralympics, 2 Rugby World Cups and a World Expo.1 Developing and operating people movement strategies has been a key part of his major event experience through a blend of transport planning, pedestrian planning and modeling through to on-the-ground operational crowd and transport management.1
He has developed citywide event transport plans for cities such as Sydney, Tokyo, Madrid, Perth, Auckland, London, Dubai and the Gold Coast.1 He has also been part of the design and approval process for 3 stadiums including Eden Park in Auckland, Metricon Stadium in the Gold Coast and Optus Stadium in Perth.1 He has been the trusted advisor for movement and transport to the Sydney Olympic Park Authority since 1994.1
