Interim Chief Executive Officer

A nanotechnology company with technology licensed out of MIT for producing carbon nano-structured materials including fullerenes, nanotubes and related material.

Introduced to Nano-C through MIT’s Venture Mentoring Service where I was mentoring the company. I left the mentoring team and joined the company as interim CEO at the request of the founder and with support of the VMS.

>Secured interim funding that avoided the collapse of the company. Restructured internal capital structure, converted from an LLC to a Delaware C Corp structure and regained the support on early investors for subsequent rounds that have funded the company for the past two years.
>Worked with founder and management team focusing on shortening the time it would take to generate revenues and achieve positive operating cash flow projected for the end of 2005.
>Successfully negotiated compliance of Japanese licensee for royalties on a new commercial scale implementation of Nano-C’s technology.
>Expanded licensing of patents for related materials from MIT. Negotiated new license for fullerene derivatives from a European University which is now the base of Nano-C’s application strategy.
>Recruited Principal Scientist and VP Business Development to support the shift to a downstream application strategy.

Relational Solutions is a professional services company consulting in the Business Intelligence, Electronic Commerce marketplace and is the platform from which the NetConvergence business plan was being developed. The company was successfully sold to Microforum, Inc. in December of 1999.

President, CEO (acting) NetConvergence, Inc.

>Developed business strategy defining and targeting “convergence” market for business communications. The goal was to create a company through merger and acquisition of successful entrepreneurial companies with skills and customer bases in call center technologies, Intranets, security, directories and messaging, and network applications such as thin client-server and data warehousing. The company was to supply complete integrated solutions, component solutions and outsourcing.
>Wrote business plan, made investor presentations, negotiating letters-of-intent with 3 companies to create a platform company.
>Identified, and recruited as advisors, two CEO candidates for the expansion stage of the company.

Cray Communications - $300 million global manufacturer and installer of local and wide area computer networking equipment.

>Restructured operations to separate company’s system integration business from its product operations to merge accountability with resources and responsibility and improve line-of- business performance. (The resulting P&L restructure forced a radical retooling of the company’s business model.)
> Implemented new internal reporting to focus on customer. Developed prototype sales automation system covering lead management through post sales servicing of the product for broad array of products and systems.
>Revamped distribution and repair strategy to consolidate inventory locations and reduce stock levels, doubling turns.
>Consolidated four UK plants into two, reconfiguring one as a branch facility with centralized planning, purchasing and support. Reduced indirect support staff by half in a 15-month period. Consolidated subcontract operations saving in excess of $2 million/year.
>Implemented JIT/TQC reducing production work-in-process time from three weeks to three days and began similar programs in vendor base and distribution organization.

Focused organization on TQM principles, Six Sigma and ISO 9000.

SynCom llc

Principal Consultant

A technology startup, TWIXTEL developed and deployed an automated telephone and television service activation and billing network for hotels and rental condos in resorts in partnership with the local cable television franchise.

Challenges included:
>Recruiting the development and implementation team.
>Developing a distributed database that integrated: network access devices, a tandem telephone switch, and interactive voice response unit and a minicomputer.  The system connected to the long distance networks and cable television head end in the served resorts and  processed credit cards to bill for services.  This also included customer software for the network access devices.
>Getting an exemption from the Cable Act of 1984 allowing a telephone company to provide cable service that involved working with the FCC commissioners and legal counsel.
>Negotiating the initial trial in Vail, CO and Maui, HI and then successfully launching services.
>Signing up 8 of the 10 national multiple cable system operators at the time.

TWIXTEL Inc.

Co-Founder, CEO

Joined as VP Operations of rapidly growing company supplying equipment to the newly deregulated Long Distance Telecommunications industry.  Three months after joining I assumed the role as CEO and took responsibility for downsizing and restructuring the company including taking it through Chapter 11 and successfully restarting the company with new funding.

Telelogic Inc

Developed and managed global supply chain including plants in Canada, Puerto Rico and Ireland.  Buying office in Hong Kong.  Also managed the new product release process from Engineering into the market.

Managed during the transition from a loudspeaker assembly company to consumer and automotive electronics.  Also managed the expansion of Bose from predominantly US-based company to a global manufacturing with a supply chain management organization that was recognized as "World Class".
