Recognized as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence, The N.E.W. Program offers a comprehensive approach to weight loss, incorporating valuable patient services—nutrition counseling, personalized exercise training, behavioral therapy—to improve quality of life.

Specializing in vertical sleeve gastrectomy, roux-en-y gastric bypass, and adjustable gastric banding, surgical procedures are available to patients with a body mass index of 30 or more. In addition, the medically-supervised weight loss program combines the latest research in weight loss with high-quality nutritional products and supplements, as well as the FDA-approved Qsymia medication.

Using a client-centered approach, I facilitated changes to dietary intake patterns and encouraged lifestyle modification to help patients achieve a healthier body weight. I offered personal support to medical and surgical weight loss patients using face-to-face counseling, telephone follow-up, email communication, and educational workshops.

The N.E.W. Program

Awarded the Certification for Inpatient Diabetes Care, recognized as a Magnet designated facility, and a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence, Torrance Memorial Medical Center offers high quality healthcare to residents of the South Bay community. 

In collaboration with the Association of South Bay Surgeons, I assessed prospective bariatric surgery patients to determine appropriateness for surgery. I led support groups for post-operative bariatric patients and communicated effectively as part of the multidisciplinary expert team.

As an outpatient dietitian, I assessed and counseled patients with a variety of health conditions, including hypertension, hyperlipidemia and diabetes. In addition, I taught nutrition classes as part of the Diabetes Management Program. As an inpatient dietitian, I assessed patients and developed nutrition care plans, often including nutrition support recommendations, to improve health outcomes.

As an instructor for the hospital's Kids N Fitness program, I collaborated with the Torrance YMCA staff to teach basic nutrition education to children and their families as a community outreach effort.
